PASSION AND UNDERSTANDING
Off The Ropes was born from a shared passion for boxing and a deep understanding of its powerful benefits
Delivered by Occupational Therapists and boxing coaches with experience working in mental health settings. This unique blend of expertise means we provide more than just non contact boxing; we offer compassionate, informed support that truly makes a difference to peoples lives
Addressing Complex Mental Health Challenges Across London and Kent
BOX-STEP is Off the Ropes’ community – inpatient mental-health pathway
It has been formulated help reduce mental health escalation, strengthen continuity of care and support people to remain well in the community. Through the ROUTE pathway framework it supports the reduction of avoidable admissions and interrupts the “revolving door” of repeated hospital use. This builds long-term stability, purpose and connection for adults facing health inequalities.
ROUTE pathway framework
Referral: Self referral, GPs, CMHTs, social prescribers and ward MDTs can refer suitable adults
Outreach: Weekly non contact boxing sessions plus ring fenced groups for inpatient ward sessions and other services
Uplift: Regular, non-contact boxing within a safe NHS ward environment, supported by peer connection
Transition: OT to OT continuity between wards, community teams and Off the Ropes to reduce post discharge drop off
Empowerment: Volunteering, training and employment pathways supporting long term stability
Mental Health Challenges
Boxing offers a powerful physical and emotional outlet, helping participants process trauma, reduce anxiety, and manage stress. Combined with dedicated mental health support, our programme builds resilience and fosters emotional balance.
Self-Harm
We provide a safe, supportive space where emotional pain can be expressed and redirected constructively. Boxing offers a healthier, empowering alternative, helping participants find positive ways to cope.
Low Self-Esteem
By setting achievable goals and offering positive encouragement, participants begin to recognise their own worth. As skills develop and progress is celebrated, self-esteem is rebuilt — one round at a time.
Low Confidence
Stepping into the ring is more than a physical act — it’s a bold metaphor for courage, focus, and self-belief. Our programme nurtures that confidence, empowering individuals to push their limits and discover their inner strength.
Poor Interpersonal/Social Skills
Our boxing sessions encourage teamwork, communication, and respect. Through shared challenges and victories, participants build the skills to connect, resolve conflict, and form meaningful relationships.
Poor Employability Skills
Our sessions build essential skills like discipline, time management, teamwork, and communication — qualities highly valued by employers. Alongside boxing, we provide practical guidance that boosts confidence and prepares participants to thrive in the workplace.
Low Educational Attainment
We foster an engaging, accessible learning environment where participants develop focus, discipline, and a growth mindset — skills that support improved educational outcomes and lifelong learning.
Obesity
Our active sessions encourage healthier lifestyles by building fitness, supporting weight loss, and fostering pride in one’s body and abilities — all within a motivating and structured environment.
